“The WETFLY Nitrogen Velocity fly rod is a high-end rod with great value.
This rod is an excellent quality rod for those seasoned fly fishers who want to expand their collection. It is also a good value and a superb way to get started for those wanting to make a commitment to fly fishing and bypass the starter rods.
Rod: The lightweight carbon fiber Rod has good action and is well made. The Rod ferrules are sturdy wrapped and have an attractive accent silver matching the wrapping of the eyes. The eyes are stainless steel quality making them fine for use in salt water. The handle has a nice fighting butt for use against bigger fish and an attractive quality reel seat, marked with the line weight. It has two tightening nuts to assure the reel stays put during hours of fishing.
The rod casts well into the wind and has plenty of backbone for fighting bigger fish. The four piece design makes it easy to transport in its protective case and each piece is marked with the length and weight, a nice little feature to assure rod pieces never get mixed up. Its light-weight design allows for hours of casting without getting tired.
Stillwater: Trolling a fly at 35 feet depth I found the rod very sensitive for light bites. Yet the strength and backbone of the rod allowed for excellent setting of the hook through the stretching of the fly line and for fighting larger fish and bringing them up from the deep.
Rivers: Casting is simple and accurate with this rod. It mends easily during fast water drifts. The rod has good sensitivity for light bites with floating line, intermediate line, or sink tip with fast action to set the hook. While this rod is a 7-weight, I will use it when the coho salmon and steelhead start running and I’m sure it will have the strength to turn them just fine.
Salt Water: In fishing hood canal or puget sound where it is usually windy, this rod performed well casting into the wind. The components of this rod will hold up well in saltwater conditions. It has no problem with the larger sea-run cutthroat and I can’t wait to use it for the coho salmon and humpy’s (in the odd years). ”
